The Word: August 2016

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12: Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor:  If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

I continually marvel at how God works! Each day I see evidence of His inspired word. Today was a “typical” day-if there ever really is a typical day-of interacting with staff, volunteers, community agencies, and donors on behalf of our guests and residents. Interactions included the donation of fresh hamburger and hot dog buns which were a blessing as the Men’s Shelter had very recently received a donation of meatballs!

The first strand in our cord of strength are our programs and staff to guide our guests and residents toward needed services. We also often talk about our partnerships with other community organizations and agencies – our second strand. The third strand are our donors and volunteers who provide their financial support, encouragement, and prayers-especially your prayers.

Without our donors’ support and prayers, women and children would be unsheltered in harm’s way. Without your support, men, women, and children would go hungry during the day. Without your support, persons waiting for employment opportunities and stable housing would spiritually and emotionally languish.

Jen Podos and her daughter, Ceci Giedzinski,  have been coming throughout  the summer to serve hot breakfast to the ladies and gentlemen at Mary Randall Center.

Later in our “typical” day, there was another donation of bread, and this time Meeting Ground blessed a sister organization out of the abundance. Linkages with other organizations, our staff and volunteers, and our donors ensure that guests and residents have the resources to make progress on their individual goals including housing, employment, and lawful living.

Remember, God is smiling about you!
